~Beyond Sushi~ at National Musuem

JCC Director Ms Misako Ito giving her opening address

JCC Cinema 35: WA-SHOKU ~Beyond Sushi~ was held on Sunday, 26 July 2015 at the National Museum of Singapore with whelming response. This off premise screening was in conjunction with the Japanese Film Festival Singapore 2015, which runs from 9 July to 8 August. This is also the first time the film is screened in Singapore.

This feature culinary documentary directed by award-winning director Junichi Suzuki aims to show the past and future of Japanese cuisine, not just sushi, through the passionate stories behind a group of men and women who dedicated their lives in preserving and promoting it in America. They include business leaders to chefs such as Chairman of Mutual Trading Co., Inc. Mr Noritoshi Kanai and French chef Mr Joel Robuchon.

Ms Misako Ito, Director of JCC, was present at the screening and gave a welcoming speech to the audiences at the theater. Other than expressing her gratitude to the audiences, Ms Ito mentioned that Wa-shoku was designated as an UNSECO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013, and congratulated Singapore Botanic Gardens for its recent inscription as a UNSECO World Heritage Site.
